Who we are

Kate Broughton

Non-Executive Director

Kate has a background in delivering commercial intelligence for the energy sector.  She currently manages a portfolio of non-executive, advisory and volunteer work, with a focus on strategy development, sustainable growth, risk management and digital transformation.

Kate has extensive experience of the global energy industry, having worked at private-equity-backed business Wood Mackenzie (which was acquired by Verisk Analytics for £1.85 billion in 2015). She was closely involved with the growth of the company, developing several of its world-leading digital products for the private and public sectors. Kate’s remits also included global research and consulting roles; data/content management and continuous improvement; and heading the global research operations function.

Kate is on the Board of Scottish Natural Heritage, Scotland’s nature agency, and chairs its Audit and Risk Committee.  She provides advisory services to Edinburgh Innovations, the University of Edinburgh’s office for entrepreneurship.  Additionally, Kate is Chair of Edinburgh and Lothians Greenspace Trust, which supports access to quality greenspaces through participatory and infrastructure projects.

Kate is a member of Changing the Chemistry, which promotes diversity on Boards. She has been a senior business mentor for Women in Innovation Awards; a judge on the University of Edinburgh’s Executive Women’s Leadership Programme, and a Development Board member for the Women’s Fund for Scotland.
