Ofgem Statutory Consultation: Default Tariff Cap 18 September 2018 1 Assessment & recommendation On 6 September, the regulator issued its statutory consultation on the level of the cap on default tariffs that is set to be introduced in time for the start of 2019. Ofgem has chosen to use a bottom-up cost assessment for calculating the level of the cap, allowing for efficient costs and a “normal” profit level of 1.9%. For a typical dual-fuel customer paying by direct debit, the baseline would be set at £1,136, rising £83 (7.3%) to £1,219 for standard credit customers.
