In recent years the volume and channels of domestic energy sales activity have both increased significantly. Measured through energy account switches, activity has risen by 75% in the four years to 2018.
Intermediaries, especially price comparison websites (PCWs), have emerged as the most important channel to market by number but direct activity has also been rising, especially amongst small and medium suppliers (SaMS) in the prepayment (PPM) sector and through the use of referrals.
