Our Head of Training, Ed Reed, talks to our GB energy market industry code experts, Adam Boorman and Tom Edwards as they discuss the ongoing government and Ofgem led code governance reform programme. The industry codes set out the detailed commercial operation of the GB electricity and gas markets. Moreover, they include the processes, rights and responsibilities of parties associated with customer switching, connections and ongoing charges for using energy networks, smart meter data transfer infrastructure, and balancing and settlement of energy volumes.
Tom and Adam also discuss the ongoing code governance reform work, which is being driven by government and Ofgem. They ascertain which improvements to industry code governance arrangements and the structure of codes will help. The improvements will ensure the codes and arrangments meet the systems needs as it evolves to achieve net zero ambitions. Based upon a Cornwall Insight report commissioned by Elexon, our experts discuss the potential benefits from consolidating codes. They also look at the form this reordering of complex rule books could take.
Given these points, to see more of our thinking, the Elexon report can be found on Elexon’s website.
