Gove warns water planning must start now for a changing climate

Environment Secretary Michael Gove delivered a speech on 26 November accompanying the launch of the Met Office’s latest climate projections. The issue of a changing climate, and how it could impact the UK’s water supply, have gained increasing prominence recently, for example in the National Infrastructure Commission’s recent assessment (WS29). The Met Office’s UK Climate Projections 2018 illustrate a range of future climate scenarios to 2100 – showing increasing summer temperatures, more extreme weather and rising sea levels are all on the horizon.
