This week, Ofwat announced that a £40mn Water Breakthrough Challenge – a competition to encourage innovation for water and wastewater services – will open on 6 May. Ofwat also issued a notice, extending the requirement for retailers to have in place a COVID-19 Repayment Scheme until 30 June. It also published a document setting out the 2021-22 delivery priorities for the Regulators’ Alliance for Progressing Infrastructure Development. The Consumer Council for Water explained that average water and sewerage bills are set to fall by about £2 to £408 in England and Wales from April. United Utilities published a trading update, claiming trading is in line with the group’s expectations for the year ending 31 March 2021.
