Helping you make sense of the energy and water sectors

Introduction to the role of Flexibility in the NEM

The electricity system is currently undergoing a number of transformations: variable renewable energy has become the lowest marginal cost new build technology, coal fired generation is nearing the end of its economic life and retiring, and behind the meter energy generation could be delivering more than 20% of underlying demand by 2040. Accordingly the electricity system is becoming more volatile both in operation and in price.

In our webinar, we discuss what are the drivers of this change and how has that driven a need for more flexible generation and demand in the electricity market? We introduce these issues and how the need for flexibility has developed, as well as provide a background on how the national electricity market operates.
