An Introduction to the UK Emissions Trading Scheme
This Market Insight webinar will introduce key parameters of the UK Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), introduced on 1 January 2021 following the UK’s exit from the EU.
Our experts will explain which operators are covered by the cap and trade scheme, including the simplified provisions for small emitters, and ultra-small emitting installations. We will focus on how carbon emission allowances are allocated, auctioned, and traded on the secondary market. Our experts will detail the auction process, with the first auction to take place on 19 May 2021, and interactions with the scheme’s market stability mechanism.
The webinar will also cover the transitional Auction Reserve Price, and plans for this to be removed as part of wider developments to ensure the UK ETS is aligned with net zero ambitions. We will also detail the Cost Containment Mechanism (CCM) and how the UK government and devolved administrations can tackle significant allowance price spikes in the market.
