We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Lead Editor

The purpose of this role is to lead and coordinate the timely production of high quality publications which are stylistically consistent, integrated with themes emerging from Cornwall Insight (CI) research, compatible with CI’s commercial sales and marketing plans, and intelligently responsive to market events. This role will encompass all current CI newsletters (Energy Spectrum, Energy Spectrum Ireland, Energy 2030, Water Spectrum and white labels) and any subsequent publications incorporated into CI’s portfolio over time.

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Lead the production of high quality, punctual, editorially and stylistically consistent newsletter and other related content across the CI Group
  • Performance manage, develop and coach writers and editors
  • Communicate and plan with editors, the senior team in market intelligence, and marketing to identify, link, and prioritise content for inclusion in all CI newsletters, taking into account market events, current commercial priorities and the schedule of research being pursued across CI
  • Lead on the production and resourcing planner for all CI newsletter publications, working with appointed senior writers for each and ensuring that there is consistency on editorial decision making with regard to content allocation between publications, and that there is clarity on the style, breadth and depth of writing required
  • Oversee a high-quality sub-edit process, using the abilities of senior-writers and writers to ensure this is done effectively
  • Collaborate with Research Director (and others) to identify significant external developments well in advance to ensure smooth planning of content and especially editorial pieces. The emphasis is on developing coherent coverage in content publications that maps against the CI research plan, taking ownership for adjusting the planned coverage model as circumstances change
  • Ensure that the market intelligence, news and information sources that feed into our publications are up-to-date, comprehensive and efficiently curated to support the production of publications
  • Work closely with Marketing and Communications Manager, to ensure that the wider content (press, blogs and social media) is consistent with the medium-term editorial plan
  • Actively seek out means to expand subscriber base and opportunities for additional revenue from new delivery channels (e.g. white-labels, digital publishing, new markets) Lead on drawing the attention of the CI marketing team to particularly newsworthy or impactful content produced in our newsletters that could be used as a platform for marketing activities or recycled for use by online and print national or industry media
  • Attend and write-up and (where relevant) speak at external events, using the opportunity to network, build CI’s reputation and generate new and valuable relationships
  • Deliver Content Team business plan objectives and develop Business Plan and Three-Year Plan content as required,
  • Represent the Content Team at relevant internal meetings as necessary
