The Independent | UK’s energy grid

Tom Edwards Modelling Consultant at Cornwall Insight was quoted in The Independent discussing the energy grid and how it is holding back the transition to net zero. There is a need for change according to Tom.

Network charging arrangements were built in the 1990s when it was thought we were just going to build gas forever however, in today’s world if you’re in an area where there’s already a lot of solar farms and no spare capacity, you’ve got to pay to build more network to get more power out.

The key question, Mr Edwards said, is how the cost of adding new capacity is shared between renewables developers – who build it and profit from it – and society as a whole through taxes and electricity bills.
