Oliver has over ten years of experience within the Australian energy industry. This includes consulting on electricity network performance and regulation, renewable generation and storage, and renewable energy portfolio optimisation. Oliver’s professional interests are providing tools and information to support informed decision-making within the Australian energy industry.
Key projects and experience:
- Techno-economic modelling of a Power to X project using a grid-connected 500KW electrolyser and hydride storage, including Balance of Plant equipment using simulation. This feasibility project was undertaken as part of the UK Government’s Longer Duration Energy Storage Competition.
- Modelling the financial returns for different Solar + Battery + Hydrogen storage solution configurations. This analysis uses portfolio optimisation across solar sites in NSW and VIC to identify the likely returns for different-sized storage systems. Linear optimisation and simulation were used along with forecasts of future prices to identify possible returns under different arbitrage and PPA assumptions.
- Identification of markets and sectors that hydride technology can decarbonise at favourable costs to alternative technologies such as batteries. This includes using simulation to identify which industries currently offer attractive economics and which may become favourable in the future with forecast cost changes in relevant technologies.
