Bright side of the Road – transmission strategy for data centres

A presentation by Host Ireland, in partnership with Bitpower, at the recent Data Centres Ireland exhibition at the RDS presented information from Q3 2018 showing the current and future growth of data centres in Ireland, most of which are located in the Dublin region.

Turner & Townsend’s Data Centre Cost Index 2018 (DCCI) indicated that, while Dublin is an attractive location for hosting digital assets due to aspects such as our climate and EU membership, there is pressure in terms of the electrical grid and planning system. This week’s chart takes a look at the growth of data centres in Ireland and the challenges for EirGrid in meeting this growing demand with our grid infrastructure.
