February saw wind generation reach its highest recorded output in the SEM. This came in a month that saw the island of Ireland hit by two storms within a matter of days. Storms Dennis and Ciara brought with them strong winds, helping to weigh upon wholesale power prices throughout the month. In this blog, we will be focusing on wind generation and its impact throughout February.
Storm Ciara was the first to hit land on the first weekend of the month, this was followed up Storm Dennis less than a week later. The impact of these events helped to support strong wind generation throughout the month, with output increasing 28% higher than January levels, rising to total 1,485GWh, a 326.7GWh increase month-on-month.
