Our market experts will introduce the regulatory principles underpinning network charging and how network companies’ allowed revenues are translated into cost-reflective charges. We will provide case studies and worked examples to illustrate how different types of network users are charged for using the transmission and distribution networks, and highlight important upcoming rule changes that are likely to alter current arrangements.

Module 1: GB energy networks overview
In this session, we introduce the GB gas and electricity networks by defining what they are and setting out the key differences between transmission and distribution networks. The session also introduces the principles that underpin how users of networks are charged.
Module 2: GB electricity transmission charging
This session explains the basis for how electricity transmission charges are created. We then use case studies to illustrate how different transmission network users are charged for use of the network. The session concludes with a brief look at the likely impact of Ofgem’s reform of electricity network charges.
Module 3: GB electricity distribution charging
In this session, we set out how electricity distribution charges are created. Case studies are provided to explain the charges generators and customers face for use of the network. The session concludes with a brief look at the likely impact of Ofgem’s reform of electricity network charges.
Module 4: GB gas transmission charging
This session explains how gas transmission network users are charged for putting gas into (entry) and taking gas from (exit) the gas transmission system. We will explain the difference between commodity and capacity-based charges and provide the latest on rule changes affecting charges.
Module 5: GB gas distribution charging
In this session, we describe how gas distribution network users are charged for using the network and explain the basis for capacity and commodity-based charges. Additionally, we will cover how ‘ratchet’ charges are applied to users that exceed their allowed offtake capacity.
