Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (CPPAs) are very much in the news both internationally and in the Irish market. Amazon’s recent announcement of Ireland’s first unsubsidised CPPA, an agreement with the proposed 91.2MW Meenbog wind farm, is an exciting development. This deal follows the 4 February 2019 letter from Minister Bruton to the Irish Wind Energy Association (IWEA), in which the Minister expressed confidence in the corporate sector as a route to market. In this blog, we ask: is the Irish CPPA sector at an inflection point? Does the Amazon deal signal growth, or will the more optimistic projections be confounded?
