Just as National Grid Electricity System Operator publishes its annual Future Energy Scenarios, Distribution Network Operator (DNO) Electricity North West (ENW) launched its Distribution Future Energy Scenarios. The DNO has forecast future electricity generation and consumption across its network out to 2050, across five scenarios representing a base-case, as well as scenarios matrixing high and low levels of climate ambition and policy, and high and low levels of economic growth. The two scenarios with strong economies see a faster low carbon transition and higher electricity use.
In this week’s Chart of the Week, we focus on the expected future deployment of distribution-connected generation in the region. ENW projects that between 500MW and 3.5GW of additional generation will join the existing 2.5GW of generation connected to its network. Highest deployment is expected under the Green Ambition and Active Economy scenarios, both of which meet 2050 carbon neutral targets.
