Financing net zero: Investment in electric vehicle charging infrastructure

As the number of electric vehicles (EVs) has rapidly increased, with registrations in 2022 up 40 per cent on 2021, charging infrastructure is rapidly evolving into an asset class in its own right. As demand for EVs continues to grow, vital questions must be answered on the most suitable business models; given the enduring uncertainty over demand patterns, long-term cash flow, grid connections, and the lack of interoperability.

Government policy must also be analysed, with a range of e-mobility measures in the recently published Powering Up Britain plan. In particular, the consultation on a potential Zero Emission Vehicle mandate on automotive manufacturers could lead to a significant increase in EV uptake throughout the UK, opening further avenues for investment in EV charging and its related infrastructure.

Our upcoming Financing net zero webinar, sponsored by law firm Shoosmiths, will assess the evolution of the sector and identify investment opportunities and bottlenecks. The results from the new EV country attractiveness index, produced in partnership with Shoosmiths, will also be presented. A panel discussion with key market participants will follow.

Panellists include:

  • Calum Stacey, Shoosmiths
  • James McKemey, Pod Point
  • Katie Hickford, Cornwall Insight
  • Nicolas Garnier, TotalEnergies
  • Daniel Atzori, PhD, Cornwall Insight
