On 10 May it was announced that Ireland had gone 25 days without coal-fired generation on the system, with EirGrid publicising that the no-coal period occurred throughout 11 April to 7 May. This run had in fact extended to 30 days according to data supplied by ENTSO-E. In this edition of the blog, we observe the composition of thermal plant in the generation mix throughout the original no-coal run, and how the presence of peat on the system may have undermined the recent no-coal success.
