Cornwall Insight’s research showing Scotland has seen the largest increase in renewable pipeline capacity in the past year of all regions across Great Britain was highlighted in renews today. Central and southern Scotland and eastern England have seen the largest increase with 1003MW and 800MW of additional pipeline capacity added, respectively.
Explaining about the increase Laura Woolsey, Analyst at Cornwall Insight said there is no one technology type driving the regional increases; however, certain technology types dominate specific regions.
Although onshore wind dominates capacity in this region, high Transmission Network Use of System (TNUoS) costs have been highlighted as a potential barrier to development.
