Network Rail

Client Need
As one of the country’s largest users of electricity, Network Rail has the ambition to have all of its non-traction electricity supplies sourced from sustainable energy by 2030.
Our Solution
As part of the establishment of Network Rail’s agreement with RWE, we supported the company with its engagement strategy with potential counterparties, development of a framework for evaluating offers and the mapping of volumes from the agreement to Network Rail’s existing energy contract structures – providing this package alongside broader analysis in respect wholesale market, policy and regulatory dynamics.
Outcome
We supported Network Rail in securing their Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CoPPA) with RWE, through which they will receive 300GWh per annum of renewable electricity from the company’s Gwynt y Môr offshore wind asset. This followed a similar 2025 deal for solar electricity with EDF Renewables and will run for a term of five years.
