Client Need
Exergy World were assessing the potential to develop a BESS asset in either the Irish or Northern Irish Markets. To inform their location and investmnet decsions we provided them with BESS revenue forecasts for a 50MW asset across a range of durations and input assumptions.
Our Solution
We provided site-specific revenue forecasts for the assets, undertaken using our in-house BESS optimisation tool and included all relevant revenues (Wholesale trading, Balancing Market, Capacity Remuneration Mechanism, and System Services). Input assumptions and scenarios analysed were agreed with Exergy Energy. The forecasts included technical capabilities such as degradation rate, cycle rates, and round-trip efficiency. Alongside the revenue forecasts including details of the revenue streams assessed and future reforms to them, we provided commercial insight for each scenario studied.
Outcome
Our forecasts showed an enduring opportunity for BESS assets in Ireland and Northern Ireland with future market changes providing significant opportunity subject to additional reforms.
